We’re all growing older. Let’s talk about it.
Age Against the Machine is Wayne Senior Center’s podcast exploring what it means to grow older today. Through conversations with our members, community leaders, and local experts, we’re challenging outdated ideas about aging and replacing them with stories of purpose, curiosity, resilience, connection, and possibility.
Whether you’re 35 or 85, this podcast is for anyone interested in living well and rethinking what it means to grow older today.
Why We Created This Podcast
Growing older isn’t a niche topic.
It’s a universal one.
Every one of us is growing older. Yet conversations about aging are often shaped by stereotypes, assumptions, and outdated narratives that fail to reflect the richness and diversity of people’s lives.
At Wayne Senior Center, we see a different story every day.
We see people discovering new passions, building meaningful friendships, learning new skills, navigating life’s transitions, giving back to their communities, and continuing to grow in ways they never expected.
Age Against the Machine was created to share those stories.

Episode 01: What Does it Mean to Act Your Age?
Who decided that reaching a certain age means slowing down? On the first episode of Age Against the Machine, host Andrea Nunez sits down with three Wayne Senior Center members who never got the memo. This is a conversation about relationships, reinvention, health, purpose, and identity, and about writing your own story instead of following someone else’s rulebook.
Episode 02: Can Relationships Get Better with Age?
Can relationships actually get better as we get older? Dr. Barry Jacobs and Dr. Julia Mayer have a well-earned opinion. They’re both clinical psychologists, they’ve been married almost 36 years, and they’ve now co-authored five books together. In this conversation with host Andrea Nunez, they get into the challenges that reliably show up after 50 and offer genuinely practical advice for building new friendships later in life.
Episode 03: Who Decided Technology Has an Age Limit?
Andrea speaks with the team behind Wayne Senior Center’s tech help program: Digital Navigator Francis, volunteer and retired aerospace engineer Kevin, and Center member Pinky who has turned to Francis for everything from Bluetooth hearing aids to Facebook Marketplace. Their message: nobody is good at all of it, everybody feels behind sometimes, and the point was never really the gadget. It’s the confidence, the independence, and the video call with a granddaughter on the other coast.
Episode 04: Why Mindfulness Matters More Than You Think!
What if the busier you are, the more you actually need to slow down? Mindfulness instructor Liz Seadon discusses why stillness has become so hard to find and why it matters more as we age. Liz covers the “second arrow” of suffering, it’s effect on chronic pain and research on how our brains rewire into our 80s. She makes a case for a small daily practice starting with just two minutes, not an hour. Her reassurance for anyone nervous to try – “You can’t do it wrong, and you have nothing to lose.”
Episode 05: A Blueprint to Living Longer, Healthier & Happier
Wayne Senior Center member Bill Brown wrote “Key Factors to Living Longer, Healthier, and Happier,” first for his men’s group, then for his kids and grandkids. His list isn’t just exercise and diet. It’s sleep, stress, relationships, cognitive exercise, and emotional intelligence. In this eposide Bill talks about why so many men avoid the doctor, living through Three Mile Island and a heart valve repair and advises, and shares the parts of his list he’s still working on (hydration, he’s looking at you). His advice: start with the one factor you’re doing worst at and focus there.
Episode 06: Eating Better, Together
What’s really on your plate, and what is it doing for you? Holistic nutrition coach Kristin Stitz and Wayne Senior Center executive chef Asia Simmons explore food, aging, and why eating well doesn’t mean giving anything up. Asia shares how and why she builds every Wayne Senior Center menu around fresh herbs and local produce, while Kristin explains why digestion starts in the brain and why protein, colorful foods, and seasonal ingredients matter.
Episode 07: Navigating Dating in a Modern World
Is there an expiration date on finding love? Nancy Plummer doesn’t think so, and the numbers back her up. A date coach and matchmaker and founder of All About Connecting, Nancy says online dating is a process, not a mystery. She walks through what actually works, from building a profile to knowing when to meet in person, how to stay safe, and why the qualities people look for change once you’ve lived a little.
